Outdoor Sculptures Tour, Guitar Prodigy, Chainsaw Carving Demo, Street Art Showcase & More at Binghamton’s Next First Friday Art Walk – AUGUST 7            

Summer in the city will be red hot with creative diversity on First Friday in Downtown Binghamton, NY.  Start artwalking early to take in the diverse offerings … a “Sculptures Outdoors” walking tour, 7-year-old guitar prodigy, a chainsaw wood carving demonstration, street art showcase, and much more … at 30 venue locations at Binghamton’s next First Friday Art Walk on August 7.

        Begin your First Friday with a “Sculptures Outdoors” guided walking tour, sponsored by Broome County Arts Council/BCAC, at 4:30 and 6:30 PM in downtown Binghamton, featuring eight public sculptures.  Each tour starts at Kennedy Park (corner of Henry & Chenango Sts.) for Ed Wilson’s “The Seven Seals of Silence” and ends at Confluence Park (North Shore Dr. at S. Washington St. bridge) for Robert Aitken’s “The Skirmisher.” Tour guide is Kari Bayait, BCAC board member and a leader of “Sculpture Outdoors” Project (research collaboration between BCAC & BU Prof. Kevin Hatch & BU Art History Dept.). These tours will include statues, “Daniel S. Dickenson” by Allen George Newman and “Lady Justice” by Issac Perry at Broome County Courthouse; Arnoldo Pomodoro’s “Cono Tronco," Masao Kinoshita’s “I-Beam” and Louise Nevelson’s “Dawn’s Column” at Government Plaza, and Arline Shulman’s “#39021” at 20 Hawley St.  BCAC’s Gallery will be CLOSED August 7 First Friday to encourage participation in the sculptures tours, free/open to the public; no registration required. Then, catch a music performance by Eamonn Hubert, 7-year-old guitar prodigy who will be performing with his father, Doug Hubert, at Imagicka (39 Court St.) and a live chainsaw wood carving demonstration at Portfolio’s Café (137 Gorgeous Washington St.) and watch Razors Tree Carving create chainsaw art from an ordinary stump.  Inside at Portfolio’s, there’s three artists featured, including Kareemah Johnson: "Orisha's in Acrylic" {Fantasy Feminism} - Latest collection of work and the artist's depiction of African Goddesses from African/Cuban folklore.

Next door from Portfolio’s at The Salvation Army (127-131 Gorgeous Washington St.), there’s a classical dance performance by Ariel Pilar from 6-7 PM and photography exhibit by Ed Rogers from 6-7:15 PM.

**Phelps Mansion (191 Court St.): July 3, 5:30-9 PM: Architectural Tours of the Phelps Mansion Museum at 6, 7 & 8 PM:  Experience the splendor of this 1870 Second Empire Mansion, designed by architect Isaac Perry, and the mansions’ unique architectural features…from the impressive mansard roof, to its carved wood details found throughout. Tour FREE, open to the public.  First floor open for general viewing from 5:30-9 PM.
**The Bundy Museum of Art & History (129 Main St., west side): Open Art Gallery, 3rd Fl.: The Bundy Museum Presents: “The Beagle Has Not Quite Landed”: The Art of Patrick Branigan - An exhibition of recent work featuring sculptures and paintings (and the like) (Thru Sep. 1, 2015).  Aug. 7 Opening Reception, 6-9 PM.
**Lost Dog Cafe (222 Water St., corner Henry St.):  August Exhibit: Danielle Stilloe: “Unfettered” - Focusing on the freedom of movement and expression of the domesticated horse. Most of the paintings are acrylic on canvas (Thru August 2015). “Meet-and-Greet-the-Artist” from 7-9 PM in Lost Dog Cocktail Lounge.

This First Friday Art Walk, presented by GWSA and sponsored in part by Equinox Broadcasting, M&T Bank, and Triple Cities Carousel, will feature 30 locations in Binghamton, downtown, west side, and south side, and open Friday from 6-9 PM, unless noted otherwise.
