You might say the Mecca for the next First Friday is on State Street and Artists’ Row, between Henry and Lewis Streets, closed for the State Street Block Party and featuring numerous artisan and local food vendors, live music, plus art exhibits at the many galleries, artist studios and businesses open from 6-9 PM. Late night inside Atomic Tom’s (196-198 State St., Artists’ Row), there’s live music by Atomic Zydeco, starting at 9 PM.
The State Street Block Party continues on Saturday (Sep. 5) from 1-6 PM, and includes The Binghamton Quest, an urban scavenger hunt through downtown Binghamton at 1 PM; registration at 12:30 PM in front of Atomic Tom’s.
As part of the block party on First Friday, there’s LUMA - A Projection Arts Festival from 8 PM-12 Midnight. Five iconic buildings on State Street will be transformed into an outdoor art gallery full of light, animation, projection, and sound. The LUMA Festival includes the first ever computer animated B. C. Comics cartoon, structure altering national and international projection mapping projects, a community-sourced animated art gallery, and stunning 4-story animations from Binghamton’s most talented graphic artists. Among the many artists participating in LUMA includes JungleScience Gallery & Art Laboratories who is hosting a Pre-Festival Indoor Projection Exhibition in their gallery space (33 Court St., 2nd Fl.) from 6-8 PM.
