Syracuse, N.Y. - Don't pout if you aren't in the path of totality for the upcoming total solar eclipse. The big show is coming to New York in 2024.
The next total solar eclipse coming to North America is April 8, 2024. The path of totality, where the sun is completely blocked by the moon, goes straight over Central and Western New York. Buffalo and Rochester are right in the middle of the path, where the minutes of blackness will be the longest. Syracuse is on the edge, but still will experience complete darkness.
That eclipse, according to NASA estimates, will enter North America in Canada, with the shadow entering the U.S. in Maine. The path cuts a swath through Texas, leaving North America in Mazatlan, Mexico.
For Western and Central New York, it's possible cloud cover will dim or ruin the show, as April is a tricky time here. But it's far too early to predict.
